This is it. Call it the prelude, the preview, call it whatever you want, but what it truly is is the 1st appearance of the Battle Chasers! ~! ~WARNING~! ~ If you don't own this book, do NOT read this unless you are planning on buying the book (which I highly recommend)! Our story starts with a cute little cottage, in the Woodland Hills of Thorn's Glen. It belongs to the one and only Aramus. But alas, the great war hero, and the man in charge of protecting the unified territories, along with some of his best soldiers, are now missing. Enter: Gully. She sits there reading a book about a subject she has never had an interest in: strategies of war. Hoping to find a clue about why her father, the Great Aramus, is missing, she reads a note written by Aramus himself: "A fool is one who believes retreat to be the course of rogues and cowards. There will come a time when the enemy's power is so great, that retreat will be your only option. You must do this to draw the enemy away from that which you have sworn to protect." She looks up at the stars, wondering, is retreating from an enemy so powerful the reason he has left her? We move on to a woman preparing food downstairs. A fairly old soldier with a sword appears out of a closet, silencing the woman, saying "they" could be watching , and "it won't be long now!" A knock at the door. Was he right? The woman goes to answer it, a crack of lightning, and then 4 mysterious men appear. The leader, Victor, claims that they are bounty trackers hired to find Aramus. Then Victor asks her if there are others they can question. The woman lies horribly. The old soldier with the sword comes flying out of the closet, giving a threat the soldiers do not seem to care for. Then, many soldiers come out from everywhere, surrounding the four men who appear to be cornered... The old soldier starts screaming at the 4 men, asking "who sent you?!?" and other things of that sort. And then, Victor has had enough, so to put it. He touches a sphere on his cloak, which glows green. There is a horrible roar, and the four men turn into monster wolves right before the guards eyes! Gully watches from a window, while the old soldier tries to keep his army's spirits high. Right after, Victor, now the leader wolf, jams his hand right into the poor old man's face, killing him. The army of his men can only look on, scared for their lives! Then the woman, who Gully calls Nanny, is seen taking a sealed box from a hidden area. While the soldiers are downstairs getting killed, she runs upstairs, to Gully, telling her to hurry and that there is not much time! Gully confused, and now just plain scared, tells Nanny to watch her back, because Victor has followed her upstairs! Nanny throws the box at Gully, telling her to run and to not look back! Gully exits through a window, and down a tree. Nanny, trying to keep Victor from killing little Gully, pulls out a knife. She gives him a threat, but to no avail. Gully is seen running away, when a woman's loud, piercing scream is heard. Nanny is dead. And now all Gully has is the box. Why is it so important? Keep reading Battle Chasers to find out!!!
